Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, is a non-surgical vision correction treatment that uses specially designed contact lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the front surface of the eye (the cornea). While you sleep, the lenses correct your vision so that you can see clearly throughout the day without the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses.
The effects are temporary but long-lasting enough for clear vision during waking hours, as long as the lenses are worn consistently each night.
Benefits of Ortho-K:
-
Clear vision all day without glasses or contact lenses
-
Non-Invasive and reversible
-
Can slow down the progression of myopia in children and teenagers
-
Suitable for people with active lifestyles, sports enthusiasts, or those uncomfortable with daytime lenses
-
An alternative for those not ready for laser eye surgery
Who is Ortho-K for?
Ortho-K is an excellent option for individuals who want to improve their vision without wearing glasses or contact lenses during the day. It is particularly suited for:
The Ortho-K Treatment Process
Initial Consultation and Suitability Check
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation and eye examination with one of our experienced optometrists. We assess:
-
Your current prescription
-
The shape and health of your cornea
-
Tear film quality
-
Your lifestyle and visual needs
This helps determine whether Ortho-K lenses are the right choice for you.
Corneal Mapping and Lens Design
If you're suitable for Ortho-K, we use state-of-the-art corneal topography to create a precise 3D map of your eye’s surface. This data is then used to design custom-fitted Ortho-K lenses that will gently reshape your cornea overnight.
The two brands we use are:
Lens Fitting and First Overnight Wear
Once your lenses are ready we will guide you through proper handling, insertion, and hygiene, you’ll then begin wearing your Ortho-K lenses while you sleep.
Most people start to notice improvements after just one night, with vision continuing to stabilise over the next several days.
Follow-Up and Monitoring
Regular follow-up appointments are essential, especially in the early stages. We’ll monitor corneal changes, vision clarity and that the lenses are fitting properly and comfortably to maintain the health of your eyes, as well as adjust lens parameters as/when if needed.
